The Orioles have filled out their rotation depth with veterans on minor league deals in recent years. This spring, they should refrain for several reasons.
I support this approach. It is time for a slew of prospects (Akin, Kremer, Zimmermann, Lowther, et al) to demonstrate they belong in the majors or move on. I have long admired your writing and perspective. Congrats on this new venture. Please spend a few more minutes on editing.
I’m all for not watching Matt Harvey, Wade Miley, et al not get lit up start after start, but their presence in no way hinders the development of anyone else in that motley crew of former ‘prospects’ (none of which has ever been a true top prospect). There are more than enough innings to go around, but especially if it turns out the answer to “how many future pitchers do the Orioles have?” Is zero. That’s probably not the most likely outcome, but it’s far from an improbable one.
