The Orioles need for lefty bats may not actually exist. But the allure of a reclamation project slugger sure does.

Ryan O'Hearn, the latest potential left-handed hitting platoon player for the Orioles, at least has the markers of someone they can fix.

The Orioles’ ongoing offseason pursuit of left-handed hitting first base/corner types continued with the acquisition of Ryan O’Hearn from the Kansas City Royals.

He joins Franchy Cordero and Nomar Mazara as potential platoon bats who are throwing their hat into the ring to claim to be the first great Orioles reclamation project at the plate.

It makes sense that they’re the types that they’re going after for filling this kind of need — it’s not really a significant need in the first place. If it were, and there’s certainly a scenario where one could make the case that it’s at least a little pressing, they’d be doing more to fill it.
