What are the Orioles' three under-the-radar prospect groups who could be key to a big winter trade?
Everyone knows they have high-minors infielders to spare. But what else do the Orioles have that other clubs might value in a trade to help the major league team?
Gunnar Henderson’s late-season Orioles debut, plus the presence of three infielders on the Triple-A roster in Jordan Westburg, Joey Ortiz, and Connor Norby, make it easy to identify that area as one the Orioles might be able to trade from in this winter’s pursuit of major league improvement.
Beyond that obvious area, there are others where the club might find themselves able to build a deal from. While their infielders might be a good starting point — and a natural fit for many teams given they’re closer to the majors and have productive track records — the fact it’s such a public area of depth and clubs might look at all the right-handed hitters as less valuable considering the new Camden Yards dimensions means they might not get full value for them. It’s worth considering where the value might be a little more true.
That’s why it’s important, as one is dreaming up their scenarios for how to land a top-flight starter in a trade, these three areas might play a larger role than anyone expects right now.
