A Venezuelan right-hander, Chace is starting himself on the course to follow the path of pitchers like Grayson Rodriguez and DL Hall in succeeding at age-18 in Delmarva.

SALISBURY – Delmarva hasn’t been home much yet this season, but Shorebirds pitching coach Joe Haumacher said he’s been going around town telling people they had to be at Perdue Stadium Tuesday to see Moises Chace pitch.

Their answer, quite fairly, was that it would be too cold.

“I tell them it’s worth it,” Haumacher said.

Delmarva is no stranger to teenage pitching sensations dazzling on the mound—Grayson Rodriguez and DL Hall recently, and Dylan Bundy and Hunter Harvey before them. Those were all first-round picks with pedigrees and lofty prospect status.

Chace, an 18-year-old from Venezuela, is different. He’s part of the first wave of Orioles prospects from their recent re-engagement with the Latin American amateur free agent market — but Chace might end up joining that pantheon of top Orioles farmhands who burst onto the radar in Delmarva.
