Orioles prospect Darell Hernaiz returned to Delmarva having learned plenty of lessons in 2021. And they're paying off.
The Orioles' 2015 fifth-round pick is back with the Shorebirds and thriving thanks to myriad changes he made after a difficult full-season debut.
SALISBURY — Darell Hernaiz came away from his first full professional season with plenty of lessons, from how to better manage his time and his body over a long summer to the damage getting too fixated on data or when he might get promoted up to Aberdeen with his buddies.
Chief among those takeaways, though, was not to dwell too much on a single game.
Add, then, Hernaiz’s two-homer showing Wednesday night after going hitless with a pair of strikeouts the game before, to a growing list of evidence that the 2019 fifth-round pick is far different from the player who experienced all those growing pains for Delmarva in 2021.
“He’s letting his talent come out right now,” Shorebirds hitting coach Brink Ambler told me.
