Colton Cowser left Aberdeen "ready to take off," and has at Bowie. He's done so by embracing the Orioles' hitting program in a way that was difficult early.
When the Orioles' 2021 top pick wasn't hitting early in the season, he went back to what he knew. But he's spent the time since finding a balance and dominating at the plate
Colton Cowser simply wasn’t hitting the ball, and that alone took some getting used to.
For a player who, in his first full professional season, was having struggles in a manner he hadn’t at any point in his career, itwas a lot to process. He was clear two months ago when we spoke that to turn things around, he had to start getting back to himself a bit.
But since he used what he knew worked for him to get himself back on track, Cowser and the Orioles’ hitting staff have found a better balance of incorporating what they believe will help take him to the next level and tap into the power potential that can make Cowser’s a dynamic offensive profile.
“He’s done a good job of going both ways as far as taking care of what he needs to take care of — that’s his process — and then kind of letting us challenge him a little bit more, see different kinds of shapes, things we do behind the scenes with the dimple balls, machine or arm,” Bowie hitting coach Branden Becker said. “It’s kind of a give-and-take thing. He knows what he needs to take care of, and then it’s kind of meeting in the middle ground as far as needing both and knowing when to challenge him. He’s done a good job with that, and he’s having a lot of fun, and it’s showing.”
