If Grayson Rodriguez really is in the Orioles' Opening Day rotation mix, where does that leave everyone else?
The more the Orioles say their top pitching prospect can make the club, the more likely it is that can happen.
The more Mike Elias says Grayson Rodriguez is a legitimate candidate to make the Orioles’ rotation out of spring training, the more that needs to be taken at face value. Let’s start by saying it’s absolutely the right thing to do, so while planning to do the right thing isn’t often laudable it’s worth at least highlighting here.
It should happen, and let’s hope circumstances allow it to.
It’s also probably not a slight to anyone else in the mix who might have imagined they had a spot waiting for them that Rodriguez is being considered in this way. He’s one of, if not the, top pitching prospects in baseball and is only scratching the surface of his talent.
So, without throwing arms to the sky and bemoaning someone else’s tough fate, there’s still a way to point out that the stage is set for the Orioles’ pitching staff to potentially improve despite the headline offseason moves being the replacement of Jordan Lyles with Kyle Gibson and the additions of Cole Irvin and Mychal Givens.
