Adley Rutschman caught a lot in his rookie season. Will the Orioles ever get him to J.T. Realmuto-like levels?
The game's top catcher also caught more than anyone else in baseball this season. It's up for debate whether the Orioles would want Rutschman to ever reach those levels.
One of the best parts of the postseason has been the flowers for Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto, an absolute machine behind the plate who has earned plenty of attention for just how often he catches and the advantage he gives to his team in doing so.
The Orioles have a catcher who could be like that, too, in the form of Adley Rutschman. And considering how much consternation there was over when he would play and when he wouldn’t during his rookie year, the comparison and analysis of whether he could ever reach Realmuto-levels of playing time behind the plate seemed warranted.
Turns out, he’s already closer than it would seem.
